Who am I and why am I suited to the role?
I'm a 2nd year Archaeologist and I was the Target and Access Officer on the JCR last year.
I have experience with college committees as Target and Access Officer and I am familiar with how the JCR works. I know that the JCR budget next year will be £3500 and I am committed to ensuring that it is all spent in order to push for more the year after. My current experience will help me get stuck into the role from the get-go.
I am familiar with some of the financial difficulties from the last JCR, for example college taking a long time to reimburse JCR members for substatial expenses. I hope to continue to push college to improve on this and work with new measures such as the bank card linking straight to the JCR account to ensure that students don't go into debt.
I have experience with admin roles for example as Secretary of the Archaeological Field Club. I understand that the role of Treasurer is not very forward-facing but I enjoy behind-the-scenes admin and I am efficient with my time. I am organised and easy to contact, so I hope to ensure that JCR financal operations run smoothly.
I am good at budgeting and careful with money. I come from a relatively lower income family and recieve the Cambridge Bursary, however I don't think that a small budget should be a limiting factor. I am excited to work creatively with the relatively small JCR budget which we do have (in comparison to other JCRs) in order to run exciting events and provide important services to students. This could include collaborations with the MCR, as this worked well last year with events such as the Winter Wonderland event, as a way to share expenses between our two budgets.
I think it is important that the college community understands the finances of the JCR. Working together with the Presidents and Secretary, I hope to be transparent, and make the student body more aware of what the JCR spends. This means that hopefully students can better take advantage of the different initiatives and things that the JCR pays for.
