Overview

The Cambridge SU Shadowing Scheme pairs 16-17 year old prospective students with current Cambridge undergraduates to get an honest insight into Cambridge life. As a Shadowing Scheme Mentor you will be a crucial part of one of Cambridge's longest-run and most ambitious access schemes, and play an important role in supporting a student from an under-represented background in the University admissions process.

As a Mentor you will responsible for a prospective student during a three day residential. We expect you to accompany them around Cambridge, take them to your contact hours, and bring them to Scheme events. Being a Mentor also involves communicating with your Shadow through a secure online platform before and after the Scheme.

If you would like to be a Mentor, please complete this form. Please be aware that you must be an undergraduate to sign up.

The 2025 Scheme dates are:

  • Sunday 2nd February - Tuesday 4th February
  • Sunday 9th - Tuesday 11th February
  • Sunday 16th - Tuesday 18th February

You can take part in one or two of these weeks.

Due to capacity limits, we are not always able to match every volunteer with a Shadow. We will let you know if you have been matched with a Shadow before the SU winter closure after you have completed mandatory safeguarding training and a DBS check with the SU.

Thank you so much for your interest in the Scheme and if you have any questions about the application form, don't hesitate to get in contact!
