Introducing: Officer Scrutiny Panel

Featured news

New for 2025 is the Officer Scrutiny Panel.

The Officer Scrutiny Panel is a group of 6 students and 1 external member who will meet to evaluate the work of Sabbatical Officers. The Panel will consist of two UG students who are past or present J/MCR officers, two PG students who are past or present J/MCR officers, another student member, the Student Council Chair, and an external member from a different Students’ Union. Panel meetings will be open to all students. Student panel members are elected via Student Council.

Being on the Panel will involve:

- Approving Sabbatical Officers’ individual and team objectives

- Receiving progress reports for policy motions

- Monitoring the timely completion of action motions

Once a term, the Chair of the Officer Scrutiny Panel will write a report summarising the Panel’s findings; they will also write a brief report in the instance of rejecting a proposed objective. These will be submitted to Student Council.

The time commitment for the panel would include seven 15 minute meetings, plus one 30 minute briefing, and one 30 minute debrief. This would occur twice in Lent and once in Easter.

If you're interested in hearing what the officers are up to, ensuring that students are represented effectively, and developing your own professional skills, get in touch with the Student Council Chair on chair@cambridgesu.co.uk.
