Reforming-the-term

I was absolutely delighted that two weeks ago our All Members’ Meeting passed a motion mandating us to lobby for changes to the Cambridge term, including a reading week and a full welcome/freshers’ week. This came after a six week consultation period, in which I spoke to JCRs, MCRs, Academic Reps and societies about how we could take this policy forward in a way that benefits all students. I was inspired by the thoughtful changes that were proposed and the ways that people constructively brought in different perspectives that helped us come out with a strong proposal to take to the University.

So, what’s next? With a student mandate in hand we’re in a much stronger position to work towards these changes with the University. Over the vacation period we will be meeting with various senior figures across the Collegiate University to understand more about the challenges that the proposal might come up against in high-level committees. Following this, we aim to take this as a discussion item to the General Board’s Education Committee in Easter Term, and to Senior Tutors’ sub-committees for feedback from a College perspective.

Keep an eye on our website and social media to find out about our progress and ways to get involved in pushing this forward!
