Antisemitism, and the harm it causes to Jewish students, has no place in our student movement. Therefore it is important that the NUS investigation into allegations of antisemitism has been carried out.
Currently, the lack of transparency and information about the investigation process inhibits our ability to comment on the decision to remove Shaima Dallali from office. We are unable to consult with students about the outcomes of this investigation without the final report that the NUS has promised to publish. We thoroughly urge NUS to speed up their timeline so that SUs across the country can receive the report and act accordingly.
We remain concerned that the reports of Islamophobic abuse, directed at Shaima Dallali as a result of this process, remain unaddressed by the NUS. It is also very concerning that Dallali says she learnt the results of the investigation, and that she was fired, via Twitter rather than from the NUS directly.
