What to get up to in Cambridge during summer

Featured news

There is now just over a month left of the summer break and if you’ve happened to stay in Cambridge, you may be running out of things to do. But don’t worry we’ve got you covered, check out our 5 favourite things to do in summer.

  1. Grantchester Meadows - Take a stroll to Grantchester Meadows with other students staying in Cambridge.  Take along a blanket, a book or even a picnic and relax in the stunning meadows.
  2. Jesus Green - Jesus Green is a great place to play sports with friends, there are tennis courts located near the river as well as Jesus Green Lido. The tennis courts are free to use, just book a slot in advance. The Lido is the perfect place to cool off in the Summer heat, entry prices start at £6 and you can book in advance or just show up on the day.
  3. A trip to Jack’s Gelato -  No day out in Cambridge is complete without a trip to Jack’s. For those who might not know, Jack’s Gelato is an independent ice cream shop in Cambridge. Their menu changes daily, which you can find on their Instagram or website. A heads up that the queue can get pretty big so order beforehand via their website and collect your Ice Cream from the hatch.
  4. A day trip to Ely - Ely is a quaint city just outside Cambridge, with independent cafes and restaurants, charity shops, a stunning river and a beautiful cathedral. All of this is just a 20-minute train journey away, which makes it a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Cambridge in the Summer. If you have a 16-25 Railcard a return journey starts from £2.30 (depending on time). Without a Railcard prices start at £3.50.
  5. Hire a Kayak, Canoe or Paddleboard - Bored of Punting? Why not hire a Kayak, Canoe or Paddleboard instead? You can hire these from Scudamores, located on the Mill Pond, and enjoy a scenic paddle down the Backs (just don’t fall in we aren’t sure how clean the river is!).
