The Cambridge SU Women’s Campaign is running by-elections! We are looking for women and non-binary students to join our committee in facilitating feminist organising at Cambridge. Elections are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students - whatever your level of experience or involvement in WomCam, we always welcome new voices and ideas. There are 11 exciting roles open for nomination; Treasurer, Media Officer, Zine Officer, Open-Portfolio Campaigner, Postgraduate Rep and numerous exciting liberation roles! Nominations will be open Monday 12th October - Monday 19th, make sure to tell your friends! Role Descriptions
Open Portfolio Campaigners (1 position available)
These roles help to facilitate and guide the directions of campaign activity by proposing areas to focus our activism. Officers will submit a manifesto focusing on a particular campaign, or issue that they wish to bring into the WomCam space - you can take this role in any direction you wish! You will be able to focus both on an issue that is important to you, while working with the wider WomCam community in facilitating feminist organising at Cambridge. Current & past campaigns have focused on issues like: collective care, fair working conditions, support for survivors of sexual violence and closing inequalities at the Univeristy level!
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for the finances and budget of the Women’s campaign. Alongside helping with spending priorities you will be equally able to shape the agenda of the Women’s Campaign as a member of the committee!
Media and Communications Officer
The Media and Communications Officer will work with the committee to help publicise WomCam events and campaign activities. You will be jointly responsible for managing our social media platforms and online presence. The M&C Officer will have creative freedom over designing our publicity and event graphics if this is an area that interests you! You will also have the support of the Women’s Officer and WomCam Committee in updating our website and social channels.
Zine Officer
This role is an amazing chance to be creative and document the amazing artistic work of women and non-binary students at Cambridge! You will be responsible for the long running campaign zine, Gender Agenda - deciding on potential themes and collecting contributions from students. With the support of the WomCam committee and an editorial team you will shape the format of the Zine and its social media channels. If you wish, the Zine has also had launch events in the past, where you will be able to celebrate and platform the creative work of our campaign members.
Postgraduate Students Rep*
The Postgraduate Students Rep will ensure that the voices of postgraduate women and non-binary students are central to the work of the Women’s Campaign. You will act as an essential link between the postgraduate community and the campaign committee, encouraging their participation in campaign activity. This role will also come with the opportunity to sit on the Cambridge SU Executive alongside the Women’s Officer, ensuring that the needs of our graduate members drive the work of the Students Union. You will be an active participant in campaign activity, organising events, campaigning for change and shaping the forum agenda.
BME rep*
The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) rep will represent and advocate for the needs of BME members of the Women’s campaign. You will be working with other members of the committee to form links between the work of WomCam and the SU BME Campaign and FLY. Much of your work will join up with that of the other liberation officers in ensuring that our feminist organising remains intersectional and centres the voices of our BME members. Whether through organising community events, supporting campaigns or acting as a point of contact for students, you will have lots of freedom to shape the campaigns agenda.
Disabled Students' rep*
The Disabled Students’ representative acts as a point of contact for disabled students within the Women’s Campaign. You will form an essential link between the work of WomCam and the SU Disabled Students Campaign, keeping in regular contact with members of the campaign committee. The rep will advise the Committee and Women’s Officer on the needs, interests and beliefs of Disabled members, ensuring that their voices are heard in campaign decision-making. You will be an active participant in campaign activity, organising events, campaigning for change and shaping the forum agenda.
International Students Rep*
The International rep ensures that the needs and interests of International women and non-binary students are represented within the campaign. Your work will link the Women’s Campaign with groups and campaigns for International students both within the University and beyond. You will be an active participant in campaign activity, organising events, campaigning for change and shaping the forum agenda.
LGBT+ Rep*
The LGBT+ Rep acts as a point of contact for queer students within the Women’s Campaign. You will form an essential link between the work of WomCam and the LGBT+ Campaign, keeping in regular contact with members of the campaign committee. Alongside the Trans and Non-binary reps you will ensure that the voices of our LGBT+ members remain central to our feminist organising. You will be an active participant in campaign activity, organising events, campaigning for change and shaping the forum agenda.
Non-binary Rep*
The Non-binary Rep ensures that the needs of our non-binary members remain central to the campaigns activity and that WomCam remains a welcoming space. Your work will link the Women’s Campaign with groups like the SU LGBT+ Campaign and FUSE. Alongside the other liberation representatives you will ensure that our feminist organising remains intersectional by centreing the voices of our non-binary student members on the committee and forum agenda. You will be an active participant in campaign activity - organising events, campaigning for change and shaping the forum agenda.
Trans Students Rep*
The Trans Students Rep will represent and advocate for the needs of Trans students at all levels of campaign activity. Much of your work will join up with that of the other liberation officers in ensuring that our feminist organising remains intersectional and welcoming to all members. You will be working with the WomCam Committee to strengthen our links with the work of the LGBT+ Campaign and FUSE in supporting our trans members. Whether this involves organising events, feeding into campaign work or acting as a point of contact for students, you will have large scope to shape the work of the campaign.
