The Cambridge University Chess Club (CUCC) has existed to promote the playing of chess within the University for more than 150 years. From absolute beginners to titled players, the club encourages participation of all strengths and offers a friendly, constructive and social environment for chess enthusiasts. We arrange a wide variety of events for our members ( as well as casual games) every Monday evening of term, meeting primarily at the University Centre. These include Freshers' Blitz (a swiss tournament), the hotly contested Club Championship, variant tournaments, and friendly matches against local clubs (Town vs Gown) to name a few. In Lent term, we also host the College League with the aim of promoting competitive chess between colleges, including those not part of the club. Speak to your college chess captain (or us if you can't find them) to find out more!

For the competitive players, the Club has teams in the 4NCL (4 Nations Chess League), the WCL (World Chess League), and participates in the highly prestigious annual Varsity match against Oxford. Thanks to our sponsors, we are also able to send teams to represent Cambridge University in the British University Chess Association (BUCA) championships and other notable events in person - a fantastic experience for those involved.
