Cambridge RDS has been founded to help raise awareness and to educate medical students and clinicians about rare diseases, and also to provide a community for students living with a rare disease
Rare diseases are individually rare, but collectively common, with 1 in 17 people affected by a rare disease in their lifetime. This means, for medical students and clinicians, it's important to be aware of rare diseases, and, metaphorically, when you hear hooves, to think zebras, and not just horses. We aim to run educational events to help spread this message, to help medical students become better clinicians. Furthermore, we hope to provide a community for students in Cambridge living with a rare disease, and to offer peer support and social events.
