About

The Cambridge University Indian Classical Music Society (CU ICM) was established in 2023 to celebrate and promote the rich traditions of Indian classical music within the Cambridge community. We bring together both North Indian (Hindustani) and South Indian (Carnatic) traditions, encompassing vocal, instrumental, and percussion styles.

CU ICM is a welcoming society, inclusive to both complete beginners and advanced disciples of Indian classical music. We have more than 50 active members, spanning undergraduates, postgraduates, staff, fellows, students at other Cambridge universities, and community members from Cambridge and surrounding areas. Membership is open to present and past members of the University and members of the public who are residents of Cambridgeshire and who have an interest in learning or performing Indian classical music, including Hindustani, Carnatic, semi-classical, and folk/regional styles.

CU ICM typically hosts termly concerts (three times per year) providing opportunities for members to perform, for which sign-up information is sent in our WhatsApp community before each concert. The society also organizes weekly jamming sessions, workshops, performances by members at external events, and masterclasses and performances by eminent Indian classical musicians.
