Cambridge Judo Club, developed since 1906, welcomes adults from across Cambridge and the world, students and non-students. We cater for everyone from complete beginners to black belts.
The Cambridge University Judo Club, founded in 1906, is the oldest Judo club in Europe.
We are a vibrant, social and friendly Club, holding regular social events alongside attending and hosting Judo events such as BUCS and Varsity, as well as guest coach sessions.
The Club is affiliated with the British Judo Association and our training sessions are led by qualified BJA coaches, with sessions catering to everyone from novices to international-standard black belts.
In recent years the Club has gone from strength to strength, with thirteen Cambridge University members competing in the BUCS Judo Championships in February – achieving our best medal haul in years, with each fighter winning at least one fight in their category.
The Club celebrated the 90th anniversary of the inaugural Varsity match in February 2020, which in 1930 was the first formally instituted competition outside of Japan. Cambridge won the Men’s A trophy after ten years of Oxford victories, with the Men’s B team and the first competitive Women’s City team also taking home their trophies in an exciting day of quality judo.
