About

Effective Altruism Cambridge We help you use your career to have the largest positive impact.

We're a community of people in Cambridge, UK, thinking hard about how to help others the most. Our aim is to empower you to use your 80,000-hour career to help solve the world’s most pressing problems. We do this by helping you learn about the frameworks and ideas that Effective Altruists often use to think about doing good, and providing the connections and resources to take action on these ideas! We organise events, run educational fellowships, and provide personal career support to people who want to have a positive impact.

Everything we do is free, including snacks and often free pizza!

The Project-Based Fellowship

This is our main introductory programme, designed for students looking to explore some of the world's most pressing problems and learn a framework for making a difference.

Over five weeks, you will engage with key ideas in weekly discussions (with free food!). In week six, you'll apply what you've learned by working on a research project of your choice, culminating in a "Celebration Social" where you will present your project and connect with mentors and the wider Cambridge EA community.

  • Weeks 1-4: Explore the foundational ideas of effective altruism.

  • Weeks 5-8: Launch your research with one-on-one mentorship.

  • Lent Term: Showcase your work at our Poster Conference and connect with professionals from impactful organisations. Your project will also serve as your entry to the Cambridge High Impact Research Project, where you can compete for a £2,000 prize.
