The MCR — or Middle Combination Room — is constituted of all the postgraduate students enrolled at Newnham: this community is meant to be like a second family, full of people you will be turning to in the course of your career here, for support, inspiration and laughter in the dazzling but often challenging world of Cambridge.
Founded in 1871, long before this University conferred degrees to women, Newnham has been championing the rights and intellectual achievements of people who don’t fit the Cambridge mould. Living and working in the footsteps of amazing personalities like Sylvia Plath, Ali Smith, and Rosalind Franklin (the list could go on and on and on) is a constant spur to be one’s best, most confident self. Here you’ll be surrounded by the inspiration of your fellow MCR members, a network of ambitious, creative peers with whom you’ll build the future of Newnham, and hopefully find your home away from home.
